It's important for administrators to understand the interconnectedness and the strength of the entire platform. A conversation with lecturer Matyáš Koc, a certified Microsoft solutions trainer.
Matyáš Koc is a 22-year-old instructor specializing in Microsoft solutions. At his age, he possesses extraordinary experiences and technological prowess, backed by a long list of certifications in Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, among others. His recent accolade includes the Microsoft Certified Trainer recognition. Matyáš is the founder of pg-sec, a company offering cybersecurity consultations. Additionally, he is part of the leadership at the Students' Training Center (STC), providing high school students with education beyond standard curriculums. Within STC, he serves as the Technology & Security Lead and conducts webinars.
How did you get into training for Microsoft solutions?
My first training session happened during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was lecturing high school students as part of the Students' Training Center in 2020 (note: Matyáš was 19 at the time). I also collaborated directly with Microsoft, assisting in deploying Teams in schools for the Česko.Digital project.
How did you achieve your first Microsoft certification?
At that time, Microsoft recommended I undertake the MS-101 training with Petr Vlček, stating that 101 was a basic level. I completed the course and then proceeded to take the certification at PearsonVUE. However, it didn't feel like a basic level to me. When I passed the test on my first attempt, I mentioned it to my friends at Microsoft, and I was informed that it actually corresponds to the third level.
How did you feel during your first training session?
I didn't know what to expect. The initial course was online, and I didn't see many reactions. There wasn't much interaction from the participants. I tried to engage them in discussions on the topic. Some reacted actively, but there were others who passively sat through it. I always feel nervous and concerned about having enough content. But eventually, it goes smoothly.
What Microsoft platforms do you train on?
I train on Microsoft 365 and Azure platforms, primarily specializing in security and infrastructure.
What should companies focus on to fully utilize Microsoft solutions?
Microsoft systems are interconnected, forming an integrated platform. In my opinion, it's crucial for administrators to understand the interconnection and the power of the entire platform. Each administrator usually focuses on a specific area. While they cannot cover everything, it's important for them to collaborate within further connections. The biggest problem is what's known as tunnel vision.
How do you educate yourself?
Through practice. Systems evolve gradually. I continuously work with clients on these systems and must perceive changes in the entire technology. I dedicate myself to it fully; it's both my job and my hobby.
How would you define yourself as a trainer?
I aim to provide a theoretical foundation before moving on to demonstrations or labs. It's important for participants to grasp the interconnectedness. However, every participant has different experiences. Some are just getting acquainted with the cloud, while others deal with specific problems and try to organize them mentally.
What do you enjoy about training?
It's an opportunity for me to organize information, structure it, and pass on that structure. I like orderliness.
Do you have any rituals before training?
On the first day, I arrive in the room an hour early, go through all the computers, and test them. I try logging into the demo environment and check that nothing has changed unexpectedly, such as due to updates. I always have a backup plan prepared in case something happens.
Thank you, Matyáš, for the interview.
