Course description

In multinational companies, people of different cultures often come into contact with each other. In this course, we will focus on the Chinese one.

Target audience

Those who cooperate or will come into contact with Chinese culture. Interested in learning about new cultures and customs. 

Course content

  • Specifics of Chinese culture
  • The main differences towards Czech culture
  • How to communicate with them ("how to listen to the wind")
  • How to give negative feedback ("many faces of decency")
  • How to convince them ("why versus how versus a holistic view")
  • What are the differences in people management ("how much respect they need")
  • How to reach a decision ("who decides how to influence it and how long it takes")
  • How to gain their trust ("head or heart")
  • How to express disagreement and not be annoying ("needle or knife")
  • How do they relate to time ("how late is it really late")
  • Summary of main ideas

Jiří Kula

From 2011 to 2014, he held the position of CEO of ESAB India, which is listed on the stock exchange, with responsibility for the markets of India and other countries in Southeast Asia. It was a three-year mission of a crisis manager, which he successfully completed a year earlier. He started his career in the field of controlling and finance, then moved into production and later helped the entry of foreign capital into the Czech Republic.

He currently focuses on personal growth and self-reflection with an emphasis on strengthening foresight and creativity, and also works as a coach at home and abroad. He graduated from the University of Economics and also at the prestigious school for top managers at IMD in Switzerland. He underwent demanding crisis management training at the prestigious Royal Sandhurst Academy for British officers.

In addition to coaching and consulting, he holds the position of Global Restructuring and Business Integration Vice President at ESAB Group. He has worked for this group since the mid-1990s; managed units of international companies in the Czech Republic, Finland, Poland and Italy and for several years was also the European director for the welding wire divisions.

Our brains don't like to change anything, so we can feel higher levels of stress, anxiety and fear of going back to the office. Try to imagine that it is similar to when children return to school after the holidays. Some are afraid, some are looking forward. So if you are not exactly thrilled with your physical return to work, I will give you some tips on how you can make it easier.

Many studies show that the transition of work to the online environment has changed the nature of social capital (the sum of contacts we can use effectively because we know each other). On the one hand, employees report more meetings than ever before, but on the other hand, they report greater isolation due to "less" connections with others, which makes them uneasy and changes their behavior.
